With Onward, pianist and composer Heather Pinkham presents a piano album entirely dedicated to her own work, on which she explores the full breadth of her musical world together with Ralph van Raat. The seven pieces on this CD are deeply personal, each telling its own story: of grief and remembrance, the balance between human resilience and technological progress, spiritual growth, and the quest to move forward despite everything.

Pinkham’s music moves between quiet intimacy and powerful, rhythmically driven passages, with clear influences from minimal music, impressionism, and the contemporary piano tradition. Clear textures, layered patterns, and a strong focus on timbre and space give the listener time to breathe within the music. Some works are almost meditative, while others demand a physical, virtuosic approach, yet the melodic line always remains central.

With Onward, Pinkham sketches a coherent portrait of her artistic voice: a piano repertoire in which emotion and structure are carefully balanced and in which each track reveals a new facet of the same inner compass: the movement forward.
